Young Infants (6 weeks – 18 months)

We support an infant’s needs through Relationship Based Care, Continuity of Care, Primary Care-giving, and small groups.

  • Ratios: 1:4
  • Class size: 8 learners

Through these practices, your infant will be assigned a Primary Caregiver, who will get to know your infant’s daily routine including their feeding and nap schedule and will adjust as their needs change. In addition, we use the practice of Continuity of Care, where the caregivers get to know each infant over time, and continue to provide care for them for the length of their stay in our program.

We believe infants are capable and competent

In line with the R.I.E. philosophy, we believe infants thrive when given the opportunity to develop at their own pace. At the PlayPlace, ELC it is more important “how” a learner develops vs “when”. You will not find high chairs in our program, but instead will see caregivers feeding infant’s in their arms, or once infant’s are sitting up on their own, we provide infant sized chairs that they are able to climb in and out of without assistance.

The experiences that your infant will engage in

Our infants spend time engaging in sensory, open ended materials both indoors and outdoors. We take them on walks in our buggies, while also allowing for plenty of time, daily, in our specially designed infant yard.
